The Ontario Human Rights Tribunal is the provincial tribunal that deals with Human Rights. This is defined as any type of discrimantion based on the 5 grounds covered by the Code. These are

  • Age
  • Ancestry, colour, race
  • Citizenship
  • Ethnic origin
  • Place of origin
  • Creed
  • Disability
  • Family status
  • Marital status (including single status)
  • Gender identity, gender expression
  • Receipt of public assistance (in housing only)
  • Record of offences (in employment only)
  • Sex (including pregnancy and breastfeeding)
  • Sexual orientation.

According to the watchdog for the people 93% of all case brought before the tribunal are dissmissed w2ithout a HEaring this means that most cases are not properly dealt with and the majority of discrimantion issues are told that it’s not a big deal and the victim should “let it go”.  This is detrimental to victims of Human Rights because it is telling them that they don’t matter. It is not giving justice to anyone. Unfortunatly many tribunals do this because they don’t want to be bothered to hear questionable cases or pay the adjudicater for the case that us not 100% prooven. Most cases never get heard and most people who discrimante can do it againa nd again becoming seriel discrimnaters hurting more people again and again.
